BUWOG can look back on 70 years of expe­ri­ence in the resi­den­ti­al pro­per­ty sec­tor, is curr­ent­ly deve­lo­ping urgen­tly nee­ded resi­den­ti­al space with around 55,000 apart­ments under con­s­truc­tion and in plan­ning and, accor­ding to the latest bul­wi­en­ge­sa stu­dy, is the lar­gest pri­va­te pro­ject deve­lo­per. In new con­s­truc­tion, BUWOG’s focus is on envi­ron­men­tal, eco­no­mic and social sus­taina­bi­li­ty. As part of this, the com­pa­ny is pur­suing ambi­tious cli­ma­te pro­tec­tion tar­gets and has an ener­gy manage­ment sys­tem in accordance with ISO 50001.

BUWOG’s sus­taina­bi­li­ty agen­da extends across the enti­re new con­s­truc­tion busi­ness. For exam­p­le, BUWOG plans to increase the share of apart­ments with rene­wa­ble ener­gy to at least 35% by the end of 2024. More than every third new apart­ment will then be sup­pli­ed with rene­wa­ble energy.

Whe­re­ver it is pos­si­ble and makes sen­se, gree­n­ery is pla­ced on the roof­tops of BUWOG’s new buil­dings. This pro­vi­des an addi­tio­nal habi­tat for nati­ve birds and insects. And what’s more: green roof­tops can store rain­wa­ter and return it to the natu­ral water cycle through eva­po­ra­ti­on. A posi­ti­ve side effect: plea­sant coo­ling on hot sum­mer days.

At BUWOG, though, sus­taina­bi­li­ty beg­ins even befo­re the cra­nes start run­ning: when sel­ec­ting buil­ding mate­ri­als, we look for sus­tainable or recy­cled raw mate­ri­als, pri­ma­ri­ly from the regi­on. This not only secu­res local jobs, but also redu­ces CO2 emis­si­ons by shor­tening deli­very routes.
